Privacy fence installation — no gaps, no lean, no sightlines

Cedar, pine and vinyl privacy fencing built to stand straight through coastal wind and clay soil movement.

Privacy Fence Installation by Standard Fence in San Leon, Texas
Overview

Privacy Fence Installation across the Galveston Bay area

A privacy fence has one job, and it is the one most fences fail at within five years: staying solid and staying closed. Gaps open as pickets dry and shrink. Posts lean as clay soil swells and contracts. On this coast, wind loads finish what the soil starts. Standard Fence builds privacy fencing for San Leon, League City, Friendswood, Seabrook, Dickinson, Texas City, Kemah and Houston with galvanized steel posts set in concrete, spacing that accounts for how the wood will move, and hardware sized for the wind rather than for the catalogue photo. Board-on-board, shadowbox, horizontal and vinyl, at 6 ft or 8 ft where the city allows it.

What's included

Privacy fence styles we build

The style decides how private it stays as the wood moves. That is worth two minutes of your time before you pick on looks alone.

Board-on-board cedar

Overlapping pickets, so when the cedar dries and shrinks the overlap absorbs it and no daylight appears. The most private option, and the one we build most on this coast.

Shadowbox (good neighbor)

Alternating pickets either side of the rail. Looks finished from both sides and lets wind pass through, which reduces load on the posts — a real advantage in exposed lots.

Horizontal cedar

Clean, modern lines. Needs a stiffer post schedule and careful board selection because horizontal boards show any sag, so it is built differently rather than just turned sideways.

Vinyl (PVC) privacy

Tongue-and-groove panels that never need staining and do not gray. Higher upfront, near-zero upkeep, and popular with HOAs for exactly that reason.

Pressure-treated pine privacy

The value option. Same build standards as cedar, lower material cost, and it wants sealing on a schedule to keep it from warping.

Rot board, cap and trim

A treated base board keeps the pickets out of the splash zone; cap and trim sheds water off the picket ends. Both add years for a few dollars a foot.

The payoff

Why our privacy fences stay private

Galvanized steel posts

Wood posts rot at the ground line and lean. Steel does not, and it is the single biggest difference in how a fence looks at year eight.

Built for clay and salt air

Post depth matched to soil and exposure, concrete bell or over-pour where the site needs it.

Wind-rated hardware

Hinges and latches sized for gate weight and gust load, not for looks.

HOA and height rules handled

Houston caps front-yard fences near 4 ft and allows 8 ft in back away from a street. League City requires 70% open near some intersections. We check before we order.

Clean site, every day

The thing our reviews mention most often after the price.

Common Questions

Privacy Fence Installation Questions

Common questions about privacy fence installation on the Texas Gulf Coast.

How tall can a privacy fence be?

It depends on the city and where on the lot it sits. Houston generally allows up to 8 ft in a back yard that is not adjacent to a street, and limits front-yard fences to roughly 3.5–4 ft. League City requires fences near certain intersections to be 70% open. We confirm the rule for your address before ordering anything.

Board-on-board or shadowbox?

Board-on-board is more private and stays that way as the wood shrinks. Shadowbox looks the same from both sides, which matters on a shared line, and it lets wind through so there is less load on the posts. On an exposed lot we usually suggest shadowbox; for maximum privacy, board-on-board.

Will gaps appear as the wood dries?

In a plain picket fence, yes — that is normal shrinkage. It is the specific reason board-on-board exists: the overlap absorbs the movement so the privacy does not change.

Cedar or vinyl for a privacy fence here?

Cedar costs less upfront, looks warmer and wants staining every few years. Vinyl costs more and then asks nothing of you. Both hold up in this climate. We price both so you can decide on real numbers rather than a preference.
What Our Clients Say

What They Say AboutOur Work

Neighbors across San Leon, League City and the Bay area — in their own words.

7. 5 ft cedar fence down both sides for us and the neighbors. (3 fence lines with gates.) Demo and installation went down in 2 days. It was impressive seeing everything come together from poles to done in that second day.

Standard Fence was a very professional company to deal with. Quote was quick and construction of my new fence was right on time. Price was very good considering the project required the removal of an old wood and wire mesh fence that was overgrown with tree branches. The new fence looks beautiful and is straight and solidly built.

Sam, Gabriel, and the team were professional, thorough, and helped design the details so it made the finished job look great. I changed plans mid-stream by adding a second gate but it wasn't a problem at all.
